IRON MOUNTAIN — Area communities have planned an array of festivities to celebrate this year’s Independence Day holiday. Events kick off Friday and run through Monday.
Parade, events and firework plans include:
IRON MOUNTAIN-KINGSFORD
The Kiwanis Ski Club will serve as grand marshal for the 2022 Iron Mountain-Kingsford Independence Day parade Monday. This year’s theme is “Your Favorite Decade.”
The parade, organized by the Menominee Range Historical Foundation’s Promotional Committee, will step off at 9 a.m. on Woodward Avenue at Balsam Street. It will proceed east on Woodward, take a left on Carpenter Avenue until it reaches H Street and turns right. They will disband near the Midtown Mall in Iron Mountain.
As a reminder, spectators are not permitted on Balsam Street due to safety concerns in the parade staging area. Candy and other items will not be distributed from floats until they turn onto Woodward Avenue.
Eligible parade entrants will be scored on entertainment value, creativity, and public appeal by the judges, at the corner of Woodward and Carpenter avenues.
Winners will be announced no later than Tuesday, July 5 on the parade’s Facebook page and will also be in The Daily News. The first-place Carnegie Cup traveling trophy will be engraved with the winner’s name, while framed certificates will be awarded to second and third place winners.

The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 of Iron Mountain will host a cookout immediately after the parade Monday at 916 River Ave., Iron Mountain. They will serve burgers, brats, hot dogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob and beverages. Kids will receive free hot dogs and ice cream.
The Sons of the American Legion Post 50 in Iron Mountain has once again organized the annual community fireworks show to take place at dusk Monday from Millie Hill on Iron Mountain’s east side.
Donation checks can be made payable to SAL Fireworks Fund-2022 and mailed to SAL Fireworks Fund, P.O. Box 1046, Iron Mountain, MI 49801.
Iron Mountain Fire Department will be part of the fundraising efforts as they walk the Independence Day parade route Saturday with the “Fill the Boot” campaign, collecting donations in a firefighter’s boot.
Volunteers will again collect donations for the food pantry at First Lutheran Church. They will accept unexpired, non-perishable food, personal care items, cleaning supplies and cash donations.
NORWAY
Norway’s Fourth of July parade will kick off at 10 a.m. with the kiddie parade, with the main parade to follow at about 10:30 a.m.
The Norway Volunteer Fire Department is again organizing the event, so the time of the parade had to be adjusted because volunteers needed to be on the hill to prepare for the fireworks display in the evening.
Participants will asked to line up at least 45 minutes early for judging. No registration is required to take part in the parade. Children are asked to line up on 10th Avenue, with the main parade entries to line up on Railroad Avenue.
The fire department will conduct the fireworks display at dusk. Before the fireworks, the Norway City Band will have a public concert.
The Norway Volunteer Fire Department will also provide a fireworks display Friday after races are finished at the Norway Speedway.
HAMILTON LAKES
The Hamilton Lakes Association will host its annual Fourth of July boat parade at 2 p.m. Monday on the chain of lakes.
No preregistration is required. Participants are asked to meet at the east end of Lake Louise. They will follow the Lake Louise shoreline and travel through the channel and circle Hamilton Lake.
The parade will conclude after the boats circle near the Hamilton Lake boat launch.
Prizes will be awarded by the Hamilton Association.
HERMANSVILLE
The annual Hermansville Independence Day celebration is planned from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Hermansville Lake and Park.
Festivities kick off with the kids parade at 10:30 a.m., with the main parade to follow. Line-up and registration begins at 10 a.m. at IXL Drive. Children are to line up at 9:30 a.m. at the Sportsman Club.
Awards include float prizes of $200, $150, $75 and $50; antique car prizes of $50 and $25; classic car prizes of $50 and $25; best-decorated ORV prizes of $25 and $15; and two best-decorated bicycle prizes of $10 each. There also will be prizes given to all children in the parade. Prizes will be awarded at the park.
There will be food, refreshments, music and games at the park.
The Descendents will provide music from noon to 4 p.m. Those attending are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
The ACA slides and bounce house will be open at noon for kids.
Registration for the Rusty Nuts Car Club show next to the IXL Historical Museum will be 8 a.m. to noon, with trophy presentation at 3 p.m. There is a $10 registration fee. Motorcycles will also be included.
The American Legion Post 340 will host a cornhole competition and 50-50 raffle at the lake.
The IXL Historical Museum will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Vietnam Veterans Museum will be open from 9 to 1 p.m.
Registration for the Hermansville Mud Bogs will be 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Entry fee is $20 for stocks and $30 for mods. Runs begin at noon.

POWERS-SPALDING
The Powers-Spalding Independence Day celebration is set for Monday at the Veterans Memorial Park in Powers.
The “Patriotic” parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. Participants can register at 9:30 a.m. at the Lions Club building on Old Highway 41. Cash prizes will be awarded for the best floats.
After the parade, festivities continue at the park, with food, refreshments, live music and games.
Truck pulls will begin at noon; registration is at 10:30 a.m.
A fishing derby, sponsored by the Normenco Sportsmen’s Club, starts at 1 p.m.
The festivities are sponsored by the Powers-Spalding Lions Club and Tony Revord American Legion Post 244 and Sons of the American Legion Post 244.
CHANNING
Sagola Township’s annual Independence Day parade will kick off down M-95 at 2 p.m. Saturday. Participants are asked to lineup on Turner Road.
The annual community picnic, sponsored by the Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club, will take place immediately after the parade at the Channing athletic complex.
Adult beverages and soda will be available. No carry-ins will be allowed. Bingo, a cornhole tournament and 50-50 drawings will take place throughout the day.
Kids can enjoy games and activities, as well as a bounce house from 4 to 8 p.m.
Music by Melanie Rose, Jack Peterson and JJ Fende will begin at 5 p.m., with the fireworks set off at dusk.
FELCH TOWNSHIP
An American Legion baseball tournament Saturday begins the holiday weekend. First game is set for 9 a.m., with concessions available by the Felch Fire Department.
The annual Fourth of July parade begins at noon Sunday in Foster City and continues down M-69 to the community center. Everyone is asked to start lining up at 11 a.m. on Kelly Road.
Felch Township fireworks will take place at dusk Sunday at the community center in Felch.
SPREAD EAGLE, Wis.
A fireworks display is planned at dusk Sunday at the Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes in Spread Eagle.
The Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes Association will sponsor its annual boat parade at 1 p.m. Monday, with the theme of “Happy Days are Here Again.”
They will also host a ice cream social at Melin’s on North Lake Channel at 11:30 a.m.
The Badwater Ski-Ters will perform at 6 p.m. Monday at Vagabond Park.
FLORENCE, Wis.
Fireworks over Fisher Lake, presented by the Florence Volunteer Fire Department, will begin at dusk Monday.
LONG LAKE, Wis.
The annual Long Lake Fire/EMS Fourth of July Parade and Picnic is slated Sunday. Parade steps off at noon on State Highway 139.
The festivities will continue at the Roadhouse 139 pavilion. Bobby Vintage will be performing country selections from 1 to 5 p.m. with local rock ‘n’ roll band K-Blitz taking the stage from 6 to 10 p.m.
Food available includes brats, hot dogs, pulled pork, sweet corn, watermelon, brownies and beverages. Proceeds go to benefit the fire department.
Face painting for the kids will be offered.
The Long Lake Volunteer Fire Department will also raffles throughout event.
PEMBINE, Wis.
The Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine Fourth of July celebration will feature a variety of activities throughout the community Saturday to celebrate the Independence Day holiday.
A fishing tournament is set from 10 a.m. to noon at the Dunbar Fishing Pond. Richard’s Supper Club will offer free pancakes to youth age 14 and younger before the tournament.
Vendors and crafters will set up for the day behind the Silver Dollar.
Thermal Chaos will have food truck available in the afternoon, and Winters Family Restaurant will start serving at 3 p.m.
Everyone is invited to tour the new ambulance, fire trucks and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources forestry vehicles at the Pembine Automotive building. Tattoos and ice cream will be available for the kids celebrating EMS and fire, as well as free giveaways from some area businesses and a visit from Smokey Bear.
Live music will start at 5 p.m. at the Silver Dollar and the Paul Family Bluegrass will perform at 6 p.m. at Winters Family Restaurant.
Ducey’s Guns and Ammo will have many activities for children throughout the day, including foam ax throwing, treasure hunt, pick a rubber duck for a prize, cast and hook, face painting and more. The Rolling Heaps Car Show will take place in their back parking lot.
The Iron Bandogs will have an open house at the clubhouse.
The public can enjoy beverages on the patio at Paris in Pembine.
Fireworks will be at 9:30 p.m.
GOODMAN, Wis.
Goodman Fire Department will host its annual Fourth of July street dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at the Goodman Fire Hall, 506 Mill St. Audion Entertainment will provide the DJ music for the evening.
They will offer food, refreshments and raffles. No carry-ins are allowed. Admission is free.
All proceeds go toward needed fire equipment.
Fireworks will be at dusk Friday over Mill Pond.
IRON RIVER
The American Legion Reino Post 21 Sons of the American Legion will host a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday. The post also will serve hot dogs and brats from noon to 4 p.m. Monday in front of the post on Washington Avenue.
The Fourth of July “Patriotic” parade starts at 10 p.m. Monday, with line-up at the West Iron County High School administration building. Participants can start registration at 9 a.m. The route goes down Stambaugh Hill on Genesee Street, then west on Genesee to Seventh Avenue, where it will disband. A reviewing stand will be along Genesee Street. Parade prizes will be awarded.
All veterans are invited to participate in the West Side Veterans Council sponsored float. They are asked to report to the high school at 9:30 a.m.
After the parade, the West Iron County Fire Department will give out free ice cream and refreshments to the kids, as well as host races and a watermelon-eating contest.
A vintage aircraft flyover is scheduled for about 10 a.m., weather permitting.
Fireworks presented by the West Iron County firefighters will start at dusk.
ALPHA
Independence Day festivities will start with the raising of the flag at 9 a.m. Monday at the Village Circle in Alpha, featuring the “Voice of the Fourth” Adam Stender, the East Side Veterans Council and the Forest Park High School band.
The parade will start at 10 a.m. at the Alpha Brewing Co. and continue through Alpha, then circle back to the brewery. Line-up will start at 9 a.m. and kids are invited to decorate their bikes at the pavilion.
After the parade, Cracker Jacks and ice cream will be given out at the village hall, courtesy of the Alpha-Mastodon Fire Department.
Several vendors will offer a variety of food and beverages throughout the day.
There will be a Farm and Craft Market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with kids games and prizes starting at 11 a.m. They will also host adult games, including horseshoes, cornhole and disc golf.
Entertainment begins with Musical Knights from noon to 2 p.m., Hicks with Picks from 3 to 5 p.m. and Fatwood from 6 to 9:30 p.m.
Fireworks at dark are sponsored by the Mastodon Township and the Village of Alpha.
AMASA
Amasa’s celebration will begin with a sing-along Mass at 9 a.m. Monday at Grace United Church. The flag raising will take place at 10 a.m. at Joe Mechon Park. A picnic is planned at 11 a.m.
The kiddie parade will follow at 11 a.m., as well as games and competitions, including a sack race, dash race, ping pong, women’s hay bale race, crosscut saw contest and a coin toss at the Amasa Museum. Cracker Jacks and ice cream will be handed out after the games.
A duck race hosted by the Amasa Historical Society is set for 1 p.m. on the Hemlock River, followed by the raffle drawing.
Cake and ice cream will be served to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Amasa Museum.
The community softball game is set to begin at 2 p.m.
WAUSAUKEE, Wis.
Wausaukee’s annual Independence Day Celebration takes place Saturday at the Marinette County Fairgrounds in Wausaukee.
The parade begins at 1 p.m. down Main Street.
Events throughout the day at the fairgrounds include a craft and vendor show starting at 9 a.m., horse show at 10 a.m., live music from 2 to 10 p.m. and UTV/ATV Mud Drag Races at 5 p.m.
Food and beverages will be available. They also will have a cornhole tournament and bounce houses for the kids.
Fireworks will begin at dusk from Stumbris Park.
CRIVITZ, Wis.
The traditional Fourth of July celebration will begin with the raising of the flag at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Veterans Memorial, followed by the parade at 11 a.m. in downtown Crivitz.
Activities will continue at the Crivitz Community Veterans Park, with local celebrity dunk tank, bouncy houses, a flea and farmers market and music. The Fire on High Band will perform at 6:15 p.m.
The fireworks display is set to start at 9:30 p.m.
